His answer is a Truman Show, a president shown only what advisers wanted him to see, convinced a war was what his own movement demanded.
He claims insiders told him that for months no critic of the war was "allowed within a 200 foot radius of the Oval Office"
He also says the war split the movement straight down the middle, and that nearly every Christian man under 45 he speaks to has checked out.
Even so, he holds to a simple principle: the buck stops with the man at the top, whatever his counsel.
If he's right, the most important decision of this war was made by people whose names never appeared on a ballot.
