🇮🇷🇺🇸 Trump's own chairman of the Joint Chiefs is reportedly telling him air power can't win this, and Col. Larry Wilkerson says that still might not be enough to stop it.
Wilkerson, retired U.S. Army colonel and former chief of staff to Colin Powell, joined the show with a warning about who's actually driving the decision:
"There are 3 things in Netanyahu's mind right now. Finishing off Iran is his lifetime dream, he's not going to go quietly into any night until that's accomplished, or he's dead."
He said Netanyahu has told his own circle there's a strike coming regardless of how the war ends:
"His latest words to his cronies has been that there will be a big surprise for Iran. His attack on Iran will be more devastating, which worries the bejesus out of me, because I know what he's talking about."
On why Cain's counsel might not matter:
"He said the history of air power demonstrates it is not normally decisive, and he said that to Congress twice. Apparently Trump has gotten that counsel, which worries me, because if he believes it, the only logical conclusion is he tries a ground option.
That would be a catastrophic decision. We simply do not have the troops."
On whether America still has the leverage it thinks it has:
"Even a dying elephant can thrash a lot of grass, and a dying elephant thrashing grass is probably more dangerous than a healthy one standing there looking fierce. I would not count us out of that category for at least another 5 to 7 years."
A sobering conversation about how much room Trump actually has left to maneuver.
