🇺🇸🇮🇷 Michael Yon says focusing on Iran itself misses the bigger picture. In his view, the real conflict is about who controls the world's arteries.
"The fights are about routes, resources and ideology." Every major war, from World War I to today, follows that same formula.
His historical example is striking.
The Berlin-to-Baghdad railway threatened Britain's control of the Suez route over a century ago. Today, he believes China's Belt and Road corridors pose a similar challenge to American maritime dominance, making places like Hormuz, Gibraltar, Panama and the Black Sea pieces of the same geopolitical puzzle.
That framework also explains why he's watching Morocco.
Most people saw the recent migration pressure on Spain's enclave of Ceuta as a border crisis. Yon sees something much bigger. Control over the Strait of Gibraltar has been contested for centuries, and Morocco is becoming another pressure point in that struggle.
His conclusion is simple.
Stop thinking in terms of isolated wars.
Iran. Ukraine. Panama. Morocco. Argentina.
Yon believes they're all chapters in the same contest over who controls the trade routes, resources and choke points that underpin global power.
