Barnes argues the giveaway is what a C-17 carries that a G5 cannot, and points to a theory first floated by Commodore Steve Jeremy, that the trip was arranged to collect the bodies of CIA officers killed in Ukraine and recovered by Russia, brought home without ceremony.
Two more details fuel it.
The plane stopped in Riga on the way, which Barnes takes as a sign the Kremlin hadn't yet cleared him to land, and he agreed with the suggestion that Trump dispatched him personally, outside the usual White House channels.
Washington and Moscow have both said nothing, four different newspapers printed four different explanations, and Barnes is reasoning from the aircraft backward.
