And Johnson's point isn't that Trump got new intel. It's that there was no new intel. Iran didn't beg, didn't blink, didn't offer anything. Which means whatever changed Trump's mind, it wasn't Iran.
Iran now knows it controls the Strait, and there's nothing the U.S. can do about it short of accepting Iran's terms. A user fee, basically, like a cover charge at the door.
Johnson doesn't think that's some far-off outcome, but already the deal on the table.
He says Iran now considers the U.S. so politically compromised heading into the midterms that they're weighing preemptive strikes even without a new American attack. That's a different war than the one everyone's been covering.
If Iran's already convinced Washington is too weak and too distracted to enforce a red line, does it matter what Trump decides next?
